The orange Golden Gate Bridge might be one of the most famous suspension bridges in the entire world. A great example of human invention, design & architecture; the Golden Gate originally opened in 1937 and with its 4,200 feet (1,300 m), it was the world’s longest suspension bridge until 1964. The Bridge was declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World.
The Golden Gate connects San Francisco to Sausalito and Marin County; the bridge features both bike and pedestrian lanes, and there is also a new Visitor Center & Gift Shops located on the San Francisco side of the bridge where you can find maps, pamphlets, and souvenirs!
Most of the City Tours will cross the Golden Gate Bridge to reach the Vista point (belvedere) located in Sausalito from where you can admire the Bridge and City of San Francisco from across the bay; there are also escorted Bike Tours that will let you cross the impressive bridge and, of course, let’s not forget the many Sightseeing Cruises and luxury Yachts that sail under the bridge, or the Helicopter Tours that will give you some great panoramic views from up in the air! Whichever activity or cruise you end up choosing be sure to bring your camera!
