About San Diego

San Diego, about 13 miles from the border of Mexico, is the second-largest city in California and the eighth-largest in the nation. Founded by Spanish colonists in 1769 with the Presidio & the San Diego Mission, the city later became Mexico territory until 1850 when it officially became part of the United States after the Mexican-American War.
