Detailed Itinerary

Morning – Pacific Coast Highway

Your journey begins southbound along Highway 1, where rolling coastal hills meet the open Pacific. As the city skyline fades behind you, the landscape transforms into rugged cliffs, windswept beaches and expansive ocean views.

Your guide shares insights into California’s maritime history, Spanish influence, and the evolution of the Monterey Peninsula as an artistic and cultural enclave.

Midday – Monterey Bay (Approx. 2 Hours Free Time)

Arrive in Monterey, once the capital of Alta California and now a vibrant seaside destination. Enjoy approximately two hours to explore at your own pace.

Stroll along Cannery Row, watch sea lions bask along the marina, dine overlooking the bay (own expense), or choose to visit the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The atmosphere here blends maritime heritage with relaxed coastal elegance.

Early Afternoon – 17-Mile Drive

Next, enter the famed 17-Mile Drive, a private scenic route winding through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove. This stretch of coastline is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the United States.

Stops may include:

  • The Lone Cypress – the symbolic tree perched dramatically above the ocean.
  • Bird Rock – home to sea birds and coastal wildlife.
  • Pebble Beach Golf Links – one of the most prestigious golf courses in the world.

Here, the interplay of granite cliffs, cypress trees and crashing waves creates a distinctly Northern California atmosphere.

Mid-Afternoon – Carmel-by-the-Sea (Approx. 1 Hour)

Continue to Carmel-by-the-Sea, a storybook village known for its cottage architecture, art galleries and white-sand beach.

Enjoy free time to wander charming side streets, browse independent boutiques or simply pause for a quiet moment overlooking the Pacific.

I’m the biggest fan of Fall activities, but haven’t had a chance to do anything beyond Apple Picking in NJ. I decided to take a last minute 2 day trip with a friend in Hudson Valley, but didn’t know where to start [...] Thankfully I was able to use New York Welcome to do the hard work for us [...]

Irene was a FANTASTIC tour guide! She was so knowledgeable about the area and was so patient with all our questions. We stopped to use the bathroom and we got coffee halfway through, she was so kind! It was a pleasure learning about Brooklyn from you!
