Overview

Bilingual Tour (Italian & Spanish)

From Denver to Yellowstone: the West’s most iconic “classic route”

A perfectly paced escorted journey from Colorado to Wyoming and Utah—combining legendary Old West landmarks with America’s greatest natural wonders, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

If you want a true classic American West experience—big landscapes, frontier history, and national parks that feel larger than life—American Frontier Adventure is one of the most rewarding ways to do it. This escorted tour takes you from Denver across the Rockies and the Great Plains into the heart of Old West mythology: cowboy capitals, historic forts, and legendary gold-rush towns.

Along the way, you’ll stand before monumental icons like the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore, visit the striking monolith of Devils Tower, and follow the story of the West in Cody— home of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The journey culminates with the natural giants: Yellowstone National Park (America’s first national park) and the dramatic alpine peaks of Grand Teton, before ending in Salt Lake City.

Day-by-Day Itinerary - MAP - Hotels

Day 1 (Saturday) – Denver

Welcome to Denver. Arrival and transfer to the hotel on your own. Denver is the capital of Colorado and a key gateway to the Rocky Mountains—a modern metropolis and an important commercial, financial, and transportation hub for the Rockies and the Great Plains. It is often called the “Mile High City” thanks to its elevation of 1,609 meters above sea level (one mile).

Day 2 (Sunday) – Denver → Rocky Mountain National Park → Cheyenne (221 mi / 355 km)

Continental breakfast. Start with a short city tour of Denver including the City Hall, the pedestrian-friendly 16th Street area, and historic Larimer Square. Then head into the extraordinary alpine scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park. Drive the spectacular Trail Ridge Road—a true “highway to the sky”—reaching approximately 3,650 meters. Continue to Cheyenne, Wyoming’s capital, packed with classic Old West icons: cowboys, rodeos, and railroads.

Day 3 (Monday) – Cheyenne → Fort Laramie → Crazy Horse Memorial → Mt. Rushmore → Deadwood (333 mi / 536 km)

Continental breakfast. After a brief stop at the State Capitol (outside visit), depart for Fort Laramie, a historic trading post for fur commerce that later became a well-known stop for those migrating west in search of fortune. Enter South Dakota via the Black Hills and stop at the Crazy Horse Memorial, a monumental mountain sculpture under construction since 1948. Nearby, visit the iconic Mount Rushmore National Memorial, honoring four U.S. presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. Overnight in Deadwood, famed for the Gold Rush and its legendary Old West figures such as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.

Day 4 (Tuesday) – Deadwood → Devils Tower National Monument → Bighorn National Forest → Cody (392 mi / 630 km)

Continental breakfast. Return to Wyoming and stop at Devils Tower National Monument, a dramatic 265-meter monolith rising from the prairie, famously featured in the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Continue west to the Bighorn National Forest, a Rocky Mountain spur spanning northern Wyoming and southern Montana. Cross the mountains and arrive in Cody, named after Colonel William Frederic “Buffalo Bill” Cody.

Day 5 (Wednesday) – Cody → Yellowstone National Park (99 mi / 159 km)

Continental breakfast. Begin with a visit to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a complex of five museums dedicated to the American West (admission included; self-guided). Later in the morning, continue to Yellowstone National Park, America’s first national park. Spend the rest of the day exploring this extraordinary natural oasis, known for its geysers, eagles, and freely grazing bison herds.

Day 6 (Thursday) – Yellowstone → Grand Teton National Park → Jackson Hole (80 mi / 129 km)

Continental breakfast. Early departure to Grand Teton National Park, famous for its jagged granite peaks reflecting in alpine lakes. Its lush forests are home to wildlife such as antelope, mule deer, squirrels, and kingfishers. Continue to picturesque Jackson Hole in Wyoming, a true concentration of Far West atmosphere.

Day 7 (Friday) – Jackson Hole → Antelope Island → Salt Lake City (343 mi / 552 km)

Continental breakfast. Travel south, briefly crossing Idaho, then enter Utah to reach Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. Covering 109 km², it is the largest of the lake’s ten islands and is renowned for its natural beauty and rich wildlife, including bison introduced here in 1893. Continue to Salt Lake City, capital of Utah and host of the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 and 2034. Overnight in Salt Lake City.

Day 8 (Saturday) – Salt Lake City (End of Tour)

Continental breakfast. End of the tour and individual departures.

I’m the biggest fan of Fall activities, but haven’t had a chance to do anything beyond Apple Picking in NJ. I decided to take a last minute 2 day trip with a friend in Hudson Valley, but didn’t know where to start [...] Thankfully I was able to use New York Welcome to do the hard work for us [...]

Irene was a FANTASTIC tour guide! She was so knowledgeable about the area and was so patient with all our questions. We stopped to use the bathroom and we got coffee halfway through, she was so kind! It was a pleasure learning about Brooklyn from you!
