Day 1 (Friday) – San Francisco Arrival

Welcome to San Francisco! The California Gold Rush of 1849 transformed this small, sleepy village into a bustling port nicknamed the “City by the Bay.” The rest of the day is yours to settle in and start exploring. In the evening, enjoy a welcome reception to meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers. Overnight in San Francisco.

Day 2 (Saturday) – San Francisco

Discover why so many people leave their hearts in San Francisco. A half-day city tour introduces you to the sights and sounds of the city: the horns of ships leaving the Bay, shoppers rushing through busy Union Square, and the bells of the famous cable cars. The afternoon is free to cruise the Bay, shop, ride the cable cars or simply explore the streets; your Tour Director will be on hand to help you plan your activities. Overnight in San Francisco.

Day 3 (Sunday) – San Francisco → Yosemite National Park → Fresno

Leave San Francisco and travel through California’s Central Valley, an agricultural wonder where more than 240 different crops are grown, including almonds, oranges and grapes. Arrive in Yosemite National Park, home to a spectacular collection of waterfalls, majestic granite formations such as El Capitan and Half Dome, and remarkable wildlife. Explore the park by motorcoach, with free time on the valley floor to enjoy the scenery. Overnight in Fresno.

Day 4 (Monday) – Fresno → Mojave Desert → Las Vegas

An early start takes you south through the Central Valley and over the mountains into the rugged Mojave Desert. Crossing into Nevada, casinos at the state line greet travelers, and a few miles later, like a mirage in the desert, appears Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world. Once a small farming settlement that boomed briefly during the silver rush of the 1860s, today it is famous for its sensational entertainment and world-class shows. Overnight in Las Vegas.

Day 5 (Tuesday) – Las Vegas (Death Valley optional)

A full day at leisure in Las Vegas. Shop at one of the city’s outlets, relax by the pool, or join the optional excursion to Death Valley. Your Tour Director will be happy to provide more information. Overnight in Las Vegas.

Day 6 (Wednesday) – Las Vegas → Cedar City → Bryce Canyon

Travel north through the Mojave Desert into Arizona and almost immediately into Utah. Through the Virgin River Gorge, watch the scenery change from desert to mountain plateau as the elevation rises to an average of 6,000 feet. Entering the Colorado Plateau, home to several national parks, you reach Bryce Canyon National Park. Enjoy spectacular views from Bryce Point and Inspiration Point over an amphitheater filled with countless hoodoos. Overnight in the Bryce Canyon area.

Day 7 (Thursday) – Bryce Canyon → Grand Canyon → Williams

Leaving Bryce Canyon, travel through Kanab, nicknamed “Little Hollywood,” where stars such as John Wayne and Roy Rogers filmed classic western movies. After Page, Arizona, enter the Navajo Nation, with its traditional hogans, vast open lands and the colorful formations of the Painted Desert. Continue to Grand Canyon National Park, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Ask your Tour Director about an optional helicopter flight for a bird’s-eye view of the canyon. Overnight in the historic Route 66 town of Williams.

Day 8 (Friday) – Williams → Route 66 / Seligman → Kingman → Laughlin

Once a thriving railroad town and the terminus of the Grand Canyon Railway, Williams is the gateway to Historic Route 66. Relive the 1950s and ’60s with a stop in Seligman, one of the last remaining historic towns on the Mother Road and the perfect place for souvenirs. Continue to Kingman, then cross the Colorado River back into Nevada. Overnight in Laughlin, where you can try your luck in the casinos or enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Colorado River.

Day 9 (Saturday) – Laughlin → Palm Springs → Los Angeles

An early start takes you back into California to Palm Springs, the desert retreat of Hollywood celebrities since the 1940s, known for its Spanish Revival and Mid-Century Modern architecture. Continue to Los Angeles for an orientation tour of Downtown LA, Hollywood and a glimpse of Beverly Hills, ending at your hotel. Overnight in Los Angeles.

Day 10 (Sunday) – Los Angeles Departure

Your adventure comes to an end. Your Tour Director can assist you in arranging your transfer to Los Angeles International Airport (not included).
